Touring Car at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve…
Mechanical Problems Prevent Mathieu Audette From Eyeing the Win
Montréal (Québec), August 19, 2011.– At the wheel of his Dimensions Doors / Novatech Acura RSX, Quebec driver Mathieu Audette was today contesting the Canadian Touring Car Championship’s event, as part of the Montreal NASCAR weekend presented at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve. After having qualified in fifth spot, Mathieu Audette suffered from an overheating engine, which forced him to end his race after only three laps.
” It’s generally a race to forget when you DNF after such a short period of time, and even more so seeing as the victory would have been more easily attainable since my closest rivals were also having mechanical problems ” explains Mathieu Audette, who will not dwell on this event when he thinks back to his 2011 season : ” in the spring, we didn’t even have plans to compete in Touring Car in 2011. We started by earning two podiums at the Toronto Indy followed by a victory at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières. Those are nevertheless excellent statistics given the few races we’ve contested ” adds the Audette Racing driver.
Unlike the other rounds of the Canadian Touring Car Championship, which are all doubleheaders, only one race was held as part of the Montreal NASCAR weekend. Mathieu Audette can therefore not be plan his revenge for the next day : ” we knew in advance that everything would play out in this one race. It is what it is. The final doubleheader of the Touring Car season in September at the ICAR complex in Mirabel is not on our schedule. We’re already looking forward to 2012 and are working on different race program possibilities ” he confides.
The Audette Racing team’s season is not yet over as Rémy Audette, Mathieu’s brother who is contesting the F2000 Series Championship, will take to the start of its last two doubleheader rounds of the 2011 season. Rémy currently leads the championship standings.
The Audette Racing Team benefits form the support of Dimensions Doors, Novatech, Acura Plus Blainville, Les Extrusions du Nord, Verre Select, Jeld Wen, OPM, Amusements Spectaculaire, Les Moulures PFJV, Gulf, Blueprint Racing, Mec-Inov and Omnitech.
